Lesser Known Illnesses Guidelines
Medical Society of Delaware
In collaboration with Christiana Care and the Delaware Division of Public
Health, the Medical Society of Delaware has implemented a project called
"Lesser Known Illnesses and Their Impact on the Citizens of Delaware."
The project is an attempt to help improve the diagnosis and care of several
illnesses that are often undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. The project, started
in 2001, is funded by the Delaware Health Fund, commissioned by the Delaware
Division of Public Health, and implemented by Christiana Care in
collaboration with the Medical Society of Delaware, under the leadership of
MSD member James M. Gill, MD, MPH. Employing a process similar to that
used in developing the Uniform Clinical Guidelines, the Society called upon
Delaware physicians selected from across the state for their expertise.
The expert panels created user-friendly diagnostic tools and patient
education materials that were then brought to primary care offices throughout
the state for feedback and revision. The final tools are now available here
at MSDHub.com for the first two conditions: Hemochromatosis and Celiac
Disease. Development of tools for Lyme disease and Chronic Pain are
underway, and the goal is to add tools for additional conditions in the
future.
